Then
Jesus asked, "What is the kingdom of God like? What
shall I compare it to? It is like a mustard seed, which
a man took and planted in his garden. It grew and became
a tree, and the birds of the air perched in its branches." |

My
Testimony and a Brief MSMRA History
by Tiffany Youngren
In 1992 I was pregnant with little support. The
support I did have was from loving friends - specifically
one truthful and strong Christian friend I worked
with. Four months after my son was born I met
my husband, we were married and he adopted my
baby. I feel very blessed by God's hand in my
life through those difficult months. Over
the years that followed, thoughts battled in my
heart and mind: as a "Christian," I
am made new in Christ. As a "Christian,"
I hear other Christians lovingly teaching women
that much of what is told to us and approved by
our society about abortion is a lie, but that
there is hope of a new life in Christ for those
who seek it. Then..... nothing.
I really like James 2. What stands out most to
me is James 2:14-17: "What good is it, my
brothers, if a man claims to have faith but has
no deeds? Can such faith save him? Suppose a brother
or sister is without clothes and daily food. If
one of you says to him, "Go, I wish you well;
keep warm and well fed," but does nothing about
his physical needs, what good is it? In the same
way, faith by itself, if it is not accompanied
by action, is dead."
It was my desire to team up with the community,
churches, friends and family to serve women who
are like I once was - responsible for a new life,
and willing to do what it takes to make the most
of the reality facing them.
My mother-in-law urged me to read a book titled
"Echoes of Mercy" by Nancy Alcorn, Founder
and President of Mercy Ministries of America.
I hadn't quite completed reading that book before
I knew that - without question - a home for women
was what God was calling me to do in response
to my heart's desire to serve unplanned pregnancies
in a practical way.
In 2002, Mustard Seed Ministries of Rural America
started with the vision of establishing a home
and support services for women facing unplanned
pregnancies. The name "Mustard Seed Ministries"
was inspired by the metaphor used in Matthew 17:20b:
"I tell you the truth, if you have faith
as small as a mustard seed, you can say to this
mountain, 'Move from here to there' and it will
move. Nothing will be impossible for you." Starting
a ministry of this magnitude takes a great deal
of faith, and this scripture was the rock on which
I stood for several years.
In 2005, a large home was purchased and the local
community came together to turn the house into
the spa-like environment it is today. Churches,
companies, organizations and individuals donated
time, materials, and talents making thousands
of dollars of improvements to the home.
In September, 2006, Hannah's House was dedicated
and presented to the community as a home for women
facing unplanned pregnancies.
In April of 2007, the first resident moved into
Hannah's House. Staff and Volunteers alike have
been blessed by the courage of the women living
at Hannah's House, by the sweet sounds of their
little babies, and by the beauty of God's presence
in their lives. |
