Church Family Hub

Christ Church, Bridlington

Jenni (centre above) is a Community Minister at Christ Church Bridlington Network. She completed Stepping Up in April 2024 and felt God wanted her to develop church activities for local children, families and young people. Jenni has gathered a team and set up the Church Family Hub at Christ Church, which was launched in September 2025. We have always wanted to support local families but have struggled to figure out the best way to do this. When we learnt about the Family Hub model through Spurgeons it felt like a really good fit and so we decided to explore what that would look like for us.

Jenni says “It is a place for all families to receive support, connect with others and build relationships to enable the families of Bridlington to thrive and not just survive.  Everyone is welcome - whether they have a faith or none, come from any background or walk of life - our Church Family Hub is there for everyone. We’re part of the community, and we’re there to support all families with kindness, respect, and care. We offer a warm welcome, listening ear, family support and signposting to other local services.”

The Family Hub has already made connections with some organisations such as the ‘East Yorkshire Parent Carer Forum’ who now partner with us at ‘The Well - SEND Parent and Carer Support Group’ once a month. This enables us to have visitors in, such as sight support, neurodiversity, Local Offer and the Mental Health Support Team. We have also made connection with the oral health team who regularly attend our playgroup to offer support and advice regarding dental care for children.

The following activities are offered as part of the Family Hub:

  • Seedlings Playgroup - This runs every Tuesday morning from 10-11.30am in term time and is very well attended by approximately 15-20 under 5’s with their parents or carers. Our playgroup is based around playing, creating, singing and offering a healthy snack time.

  • The EDGE Bridlington – This is a FREE Youth group run for 11–18-year-olds. It is held on the first and third Monday evening of the month during term time from 6.00-7.30pm. It is a place where young people can come and be safe. We have lots of activities, music, games and crafts. We currently have around 8-10 regular attendees.

  • The Well – SEND Parent and Carer Support Group This is our newest group and only started in November 2025. The Well runs on a Wednesday morning from 11.30am – 1pm in term time and is a space for SEND parent and carers to come together for support and a listening ear. We offer FREE refreshments, and a chance to chat with other likeminded people and share in the ups and downs of family life together.

  • The Nest – This is a FREE afterschool group for families on the 2nd Monday of the month between 4 and 5.30pm offering a hot meal, games and activities, and a space to connect with other families. This currently has approximately 5-8 families who regularly attend.

  • Family Brunch – This is a FREE Family Brunch on the 4th Saturday of the month between 10 and 11.30am.
We offer drinks and breakfast items, along with a selection of activities and a space to build connections with other families. This currently has around 4 families in regular attendance.

We also run a children’s clothing bank which has proved invaluable to some of our parent/carers.

Jenni reflects: “We have had really positive feedback from all the attendees who say it is really helping them to gain confidence and to feel supported,

and is making a difference to their lives.”
