Little Eden

Christ Church, Eston, Middlesbrough

Liam is a Community Minister at Christ Church Eston, he completed Stepping Up in July 2024. Liam has trained in horticulture and wants to use his skills and training and the benefits of gardening to mental health and well-being that he has experienced with others.

For many years the paddock behind Christ Church, Eston, has been somewhat forgotten. Its grass is maintained, but unfortunately this great resource hasn’t been utilised to its full potential.

The vision is to transform this simple meadow into a vibrant garden full of life, where the local community can grow, connect, and flourish together.

To bring it to life and create something which will benefit many in the parish/community of Eston and Normanby, a safe and accessible community garden space is being developed to enable quiet reflection, respite, fellowship, community and more.

We are committed to creating a welcoming place where people can take part in horticultural activities, and enjoy a space for social gatherings or celebrations. It will also offer support to those experiencing challenges such as food poverty, poor mental health, and social isolation, whilst helping people build a sense of community, build relationships, and find peace of mind.

This will be done by encouraging people to engage in horticultural activities to promote a healthy lifestyle, positive coping mechanisms, and community, whilst gaining a sense of achievement and fulfilment through working in God’s beautiful creation.

A lot of work is about to begin.
