Full Cup
Marfleet
Having started as a small discussion group, Full Cup has grown into a weekly welcome space for all ages. Run by Wendy.. stepping up cohort… etc.We have begun to grow a small team of volunteers who help in the kitchen and provide support to Wendy.
Full Cup hosts between 10 and 25 participants weekly, with attendees ranging from 16-80 years of age. Those attending are not of faith but there are definite signs of growth in a majority of people using the service; ‘Ask the vicar’ sessions have taken place at the request of the group as well as weekly prayers that include joining hands to thank God. The group has more than doubled in size over the last 12 months with most users being regular attenders. Relationships have grown and new ones have been forged; growing by word of mouth and through family and friends there are now two and three generations of the same families that now attend these sessions and we have had people who have additional needs/disabilities continue to come as they love the safe caring space that is provided and how people will take others under their wing.
It is described by most users as their full cup family and it's an honor to experience the coming together of people with such different backgrounds who wouldn't normally socialise to come together and find kinship.
At the beginning of 2026, Full Cup began leading the Soulspace program within the group which was enjoyed by all and was a really uplifting experience which ended with users being given prayer crosses; with positive stories coming out of the receiving of these gifts.
As the space has grown in numbers the team have been able to introduce multiple tables around the hall so groups can break away to do arts, crafts and puzzles alongside the discussions happening. In this new term they are planning on watching the chosen and discussing the episodes afterwards. The day always ends with food being provided so a meal can be shared together; hospitality is a big part of what Full Cup do and they enjoy being able to come together with food just as Jesus used to.
Wendy noted ‘I have seen people using the group pick up bibles and discuss in a small group, people refer to things happening in their life's miracles, people openly asking for prayers, finding hope and peace through holding crosses, I would say everyone who comes at one point goes away wanting to know or learn more or at the very least asking for prayers in times of crisis. Aian, the vicar, describes FullCup has a healthy part of the ecosystem of faith growing in the church.’
There are opportunities for anyone from Full Cup to attend any of our other services, with many attending breakfast church and a growing number coming to Faith Hub on Wednesdays. Three people who attend Full Cup are currently in the process of being baptised or confirmed in the near future; from the team’s point of view, compared to a year ago, faith has grown in almost everyone who has attended the group.
‘One lady came after being recommended by her mother, who had a previous bad childhood experience around christianity. She enjoyed the group so much she brought her teenage non verbal child with her and they are now exploring faith more at Faith Hub on a Wednesday.’
‘A family who comes who are now wanting their full family to be christened and their mother in law getting confirmed too.’
‘Another lady upon getting a holding cross told me the following week the profound effect it had on her and the weight she felt was lifted somewhat making life a little easier.’
Wendy has said ‘The growth of the group has gone better than I would have ever expected, the enthusiasm participants have to come and see what we are about and the feedback from our Soulspace and Ask the Vicar sessions is really positive. The family aspect has continued to grow alongside the numbers in a way which really feels like an ever expanding family network. Holding crosses and craft activities got really positive responses and I was taken aback by just how many people wanted a holding cross and the fact that other members in their family then chose to purchase one themselves was so uplifting.
I have learnt how to resolve conflict better, how to deal with a large group of people in a small setting, how to adapt a program to suit our group, better management skills and growing and holding onto faith. My hopes are for this group to continue to go from strength to strength, both in numbers and in people growing in their faith.’
