Wendy

This Stepping Up story comes from Wendy, who worships at St Philip’s Bilton Grange.

Hi, my name is Wendy and I’m from East Hull, I’m married with 2 grown up children and 4 grandchildren.

My faith journey is not conventional but I have believed in God for as long as I can remember, I have felt him walking alongside me and providing answers to my prayers from a young age but I never went to church. I always told people I’m Christian but my church is in my heart as I had never experienced what church meant.

That all changed in lockdown 2020; being furloughed left me with a lot of spare time and loneliness started to creep in. I heard about the foodbank running at my local church and was drawn to it, I went in and at once felt God more strongly and knew it was where I was meant to be.

I got baptised and confirmed in 2022 and started the Stepping Up program the next year; Stepping Up helped me learn and grow in faith and provided me with the tools to help me grown faith in my daily life.

Since then, through funding and the support of Mustard Seed, I have started my own discussion group ‘Full Cup’ where I get to share my love of God with others in the community.

It has honestly changed my life in so many ways, but mostly by showing me that God made us to be in community with one another, to learn and grow in fellowship together and that God always remains in the centre of that… I am truly blessed to have been a part of it.
